The First Generation College Student Iniatiative Program of Navarro County, is a program dedicated to the success of young adults who will be the first in their families to go to college. This program is a wonderful chance and experience for the students. Not only are the graduates gaurenteed a scholarship, but FGSI is in conjunction with the North Central Texas Workforce. This provides the students with jobs in the summer, (sometimes fall) and help with some financial situations they may encounter. TWC and First Gen. set goals for the students and offer prizes upon completion. For instance, for completing a certain test we may recieve
Wal-Mart gift cards or similar items.

The Summer:

During the summer, 25 students from Kerens, Corsicana, Dawson, Blooming Grove, and Frost all come together and live in the dorms on the Navarro College Campus. This provides them with the "college life" experience. Students stay Sunday evening until Friday afternoon on campus, and return home for the weekend. A normal day consists of wake up at 6:30 am, breakfast and check-in at 7 am, classes until noon, lunch and another check-in period until 1pm, and then we go to our jobs, located on campus, until 5 pm. We then return to the dining hall for dinner, and check-in and meet at Gibson Hall for the evenings group activity and meeting. During the summer, we take field trips to colleges, museums, and have guest speakers. Last years trips included Baylor University, SMU, and the Dallas Art Museum. Our guest speakers included ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; and ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;.  Another great advantage to this program is the bonding of students from all parts of Navarro County, whom may become life long friends.

The Fall:

During the fall, the school year is normal with the exception of Saturday Class. Students are required to go to school each Saturday morning unless excused by a doctor's note, a parent's note or unless they are required be at an event for their school.

On this home page, I'll introduce myself and talk about my reasons for wanting a web site. I might put a picture of myself on this page...or just a picture that I especially like.

What's New?

Here I might add an entry whenever I make an update to my web site. Where appropriate, I'll include a link to the change. For example:

11/1/01 - Added new photos to Vacation Album page.
